An active composer, Matthew has written works for a variety of ensembles and has had compositions performed at Society of Composers, Inc. and College Music Society conferences. His composition Drift for string orchestra received the Kent State University Creative Arts Award in 2002. In 2008, Matthew released the contemporary instrumental CD Open Spaces. The CD is available on CD Baby and Itunes and has been heard on the new age radio station Audiosyncracy.


As a performer, Matthew has performed on viola, violin, and piano in various classical, folk, jazz, and rock settings. Matthew was the violinist for the Ohio band Case of Culler, playing at festivals with bands such as Little Feat, Donna the Buffalo, Leftover Salmon, and Sam Bush. Matthew also performed with Ohio singer/songwriter Steve Mcclain. Recently, Matthew played piano on the Don Richmond soundtracks to the PBS documentaries Still Waiting: Life After Katrina and Lifting the Weight of History: Women Entrepreneurs in Martinique. In his spare time, Matthew enjoys spending time with his wife Veronica, daughter Caris, and their dog Maeby.

A native of Long Island, New York, Matthew Schildt received a bachelor's degree in Music Technology/Music Composition from Lebanon Valley College and his Masters and Ph.D. in Music Theory/Composition from Kent State University. His primary composition instructors were Scott Eggert and Frank Wiley.


At Adams State College Matthew teaches Music Theory, Composition, Aural Skills, Form and Analysis, and Music Technology and also coordinates the music technology labs. He has taught Music Theory, Piano, American Music, and Music Technology courses at Kent State University, Kent State University Stark Campus, Hiram College, and the University of Akron. Matthew has presented on diverse topics at various music conferences, including the International Conference on Twentieth-Century Music in Brighton, UK.
